River of Yesteryear
River of Yesteryear Colonial Living History Event Location: River Bend Park Historic Downtown Louisburg, NC Saturday, October 26, 2019 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. River of Yesteryear covers a portion of the Colonial period and the Federal period in American history, as well as the Jeffersonian era in early America. Louisburg was founded in 1779 in the midst of the American Revolution, and Louisburg and Franklin County, North Carolina are celebrating their 240th birthday during 2019! This is the fourth year for The River of Yesteryear, which is a North Carolina Colonial living history event in Louisburg, North Carolina, showcasing Franklin County artisans who focus on heritage arts, as well as other North Carolina living history reenactors. Living history is a delightful educational opportunity to live in the moment of our ancestors. Join us for this walk back in time as we bring history to life! Debate: The debates between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton are especially interesting for adults and high school students! The debate between them will be held in the Tavern Tent at 1 pm & 2 pm on “The New Constitution.” Scavenger Hunt: There will be a Scavenger Hunt form at the Welcome Table for elementary, middle, and high school students. Please ask for one and visit the exhibits to find out the answers to the questions! You can check your answers at the Welcome Table as you are leaving the park. Log Cabin Playhouse: A new feature this year will be a Log Cabin Playhouse created by Cobb’s Mill Utility Buildings in Louisburg, NC. Children are welcome to play in it as the parents stand by and watch children living the colonial life! These playhouses may be ordered through Cobb’s Mill. Your children or grandchildren can enjoy the log cabin playhouse (or fort) in your own back yard. Such outdoor activities enhance creativity, enjoyment of nature, and even help develop a sense of responsibility. You can order special amenities from Cobb’s Mill like shutters and windows, or it can be decorated simply by the children! https://riverofyesteryear.com/
